A Celebratory Pub Meal

Last night my parents, boyfriend and I enjoyed a meal to celebrate my first year results and my Dad's birthday, at Ye Olde Swan, a Chef and Brewer pub in Woughton on the Green.

Luke and I had never visited the pub before and honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect as I am not usually a massive fan of chain pubs, but we had a really lovely meal and evening.

We started by sharing the Butchers Block sharing platter between the four of us. This had a selection of ribs, paté (and toast), sausages, chicken, garlic bread and asparagus wrapped in bacon and was thoroughly enjoyed. If you fancy a small starter to share between three of four people this is perfect, alternatively if there is just two of you and you are pretty hungry, this would also fit the bill!

My favourite part of this course was the garlic bread (the chicken came a close second) and I also thought that the small china plates that we were given were gorgeous!

Mum, Luke and I all went for pie for our main courses. I had steak and ale whilst they tried the chicken and pancetta. The portions were huge, the chips were so yummy (we chose chips over mash or sweet potato fries - we wanted proper pub food!) and everything was perfectly cooked. We would all definitely recommend the pies!

Dad went for cod and chips which, as you can see, was absolutely enormous. He ate it all though, so it must have been pretty good!

The pub itself looked as though it had been recently refurbished, and if so they have done a great job. We were a bit worried that it would be really busy and too loud to enjoy a nice family meal and, although there were plenty of people eating and drinking, the layout of the pub means that there is never more than four or five tables in one area, so it needn't have even crossed our minds.

The service was excellent as well, I didn't catch the name of our waiter but he was lovely and we were never left waiting too long for anything.

I will definitely be visiting this pub again and can't wait to try more of the menu (which is huge), I think next time I'll be trying the cod and chips!
