An Alternative Race Day
Yesterday, Bank Holiday Monday, Luke and I took a trip to visit his family in Potters Bar near London and went with them to an alternative race day. Neither of us had any idea what to expect, but we knew that there would be camel racing!
Despite the wind, it was a really lovely day out; we took a picnic (although there were multiple hot food stands and a licensed bar as well), watched the racing and enjoyed the funfair rides (I was also very excited by the amount of dogs brought along by other visitors).
There was camel, pony and hound racing to watch as well as doggy agility trials, pony rides, a pick 'n' mix stand and a lot more. It was nothing like I had ever been to before but it is certainly a family day out that I would recommend!
If you're into betting, there was the option to place small bets on the races which were so entertaining to watch, the camels were much faster than I expected and looked great in their colourful get-up!
A percentage of the proceeds raised by the entry fee, bettings and funfair rides and stalls were donated to the Herts Air Ambulance, which is what the day was in aid of, and based on how busy the event was I think they raised an incredible amount!
We both had such a fun day and would love to go back next year, if you're local to the area and fancy something slightly different to do over the bank holiday, I would certainly recommend this Alternative Race Day - the perfect day for the whole family!
